Twittering the Gospel in Social Networks

ECIC XIV in Helsinki from June 7 to 10, 2009

The technology is there - what's the best use of it?

Web 2.0 mash-ups are increasingly easy to use and can be integrated into websites. Online services like Twitter.com have become popular. However, institutions are reluctant to use these new features because they are often incompatible with the institution's internal workflows and procedures. Formerly private information becomes public on the Web. Institutional communication becomes personal. How does the Church deal with these changes? What are the chances, challenges and risks of such an interactivity? How can the Church make the best use of these developments to communicate the Good News?

The 14th European Christian Internet Conference was held in Helsinki from June 7th to 10th, 2009. The Conference commenced with an Opening Service in the Crypt of the Lutheran Cathedral in Helsinki. The morning sessions on June 8th will took place in the Church Office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. From the afternoon of June 8th to noon of June 10th, ECIC XIV used the conference facilities on board a cruise ferry, commuting from Helsinki to Stockholm and back to Helsinki. One session also took place in Stockholm.
